Buffalo Chicken Dip - Zigeze

If you’re ever in my home, the fridge is never — and I mean N.E.V.E.R. — without a dip of some kind. Creamy dips. Chunky dips. Healthy dips. Heart-stopping, clog your artery kind of dips. I love any kind of dip, and I always have something on hand.

Of all the many dips I make, my son especially loves this buffalo chicken dip. It’s super easy to make and is great for sharing at parties, a quick snack, and even as a delicious lunch (see Menu Planning below for details on using this in a wrap).

It only takes five ingredients — canned chicken, shredded cheese, cream cheese, Tabasco, and hot sauce — and all are staples in my kitchen. That means I can whip up a batch at any given time, and, quite frankly, be munching down on a whole lot of goodness within minutes.

This dip is awesomely good when served with celery stalks, corn chips, crackers, or pretzel flats. There’s plenty enough to share or you can enjoy the lip-smacking goodness all to yourself. Whichever way you choose to enjoy it, be prepared to fall in love with this deliciousness. Look for more of my favorite dip and appetizer recipes coming soon. Until then…

All hail the delectable dip!

  • A microwave-safe bowl is a must-have for this recipe. This Chef 18-Piece Nesting Set is a fantastic choice for making and storing the dip using the convenience lids. Plus, when you’re done, toss in the dishwasher.
  • Avoid splatter and a dirty microwave with a Microwave Platter Cover. I was tired of constantly cleaning the microwave out, so I bought one of these nifty kitchen gadgets and absolutely love it! It conveniently stays in the microwave and my cleanup time is next to nothing now.

  • This is the perfect party dip, especially when made in a slow cooker. Simply put all the ingredients in the slow cooker and cook on low for four hours or high for two hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Mix up a batch in advance of game day. This dip will stay in the fridge for up to three days if covered in an airtight container. When ready, remove from the fridge and pop in the microwave for three to five minutes to warm (stir occasionally while warming).
  • If you happen to have an abundance of leftovers after a party, you can freeze this dip for up to two months without problems. Be sure to use an airtight freezer-friendly container, and fully thaw in the fridge before rewarming in the microwave.
  • Use leftovers (or even a fresh batch) of this dip to make a delicious buffalo chicken wrap. Spread about ¼ cup of warmed dip (use more or less to your liking) across the center of a tortilla. Drizzle ranch dressing across the dip. You can also add crumbled blue cheese, shredded lettuce, and tomatoes, as desired. Fold burrito style and enjoy.

  • If you want to get fancy, you can bake this dip in the oven. Mix all ingredients together, then spread the mixture into a 9″ baking dish like the versatile Ceramic Baking Dish or a Pyrex Baking Dish. Bake at 350° F for about 30 minutes or until bubbling hot.
  • You can adjust the spiciness however your palette desires. Cayenne pepper is the best way to kick up the heat, since adding more hot sauce or Tabasco will cause a soupy mess.
  • Canned chicken is the easiest and quickest option; however, using leftover or store-bought rotisserie chicken is a wonderful substitute. You’ll want to use about three cups of shredded chicken in place of the canned chicken.

  • Make a delicious wrap for lunch using large Burrito Flour Tortillas (see Menu Planning above).
  • Which is the best hot sauce to use? I use either Frank’s RedHot to get the distinguishing buffalo chicken flavor or the zesty Cajun flavors found in Crystal Hot Sauce. There’s simply no substitute for the Tabasco Pepper Sauce, unless you choose to mix it up by using the Tabasco garlic, green pepper or habanero varieties (my mouth is watering just thinking about these).
